XT-AX9
OpenCL compatibility and acceleration research for Exynos 9611 / Mali-G72, Android, Termux, and ggml.
01 // OVERVIEW
Overview
XT-AX9 (XT-Artificial-Xeno-9611) is an OpenCL compatibility and acceleration layer for Exynos 9611 / Mali-G72 devices running Android and Termux, aimed at the llama.cpp / ggml OpenCL backend. It is experimental: acceleration is not guaranteed, and each stage is verified separately.
02 // PROBLEM
Problem
llama.cpp's OpenCL backend cannot use this GPU for two independent reasons — the vendor OpenCL driver is loadable only from a namespace an ordinary application cannot enter, and a separate driver-capability ceiling. XT-AX9 solves the first and documents the second.
03 // APPROACH
Approach
A small shared library presents an ordinary libOpenCL.so to the consumer and loads the real vendor driver through Android's namespace-aware loader, so the backend sees a normal platform.
04 // ARCHITECTURE
Architecture
Staged and independently verifiable: loader compatibility, then platform and device discovery, then kernel execution with read-back. Each stage has a defined pass condition.
05 // IMPLEMENTATION
Implementation
Loader compatibility, OpenCL device discovery and kernel execution are implemented and verified. The ggml backend accepting this GPU is not done (blocked upstream), and inference performance is not achieved.
06 // FINDINGS
Findings
The Android loader problem is solved rather than worked around; the measured driver-capability ceiling is documented instead of hidden.
07 // LIMITATIONS
Limitations
Experimental research. No acceleration guarantee; llama.cpp integration is blocked upstream and no performance figure is claimed.
